Don't miss out on future activities! Look what we've done lately!
WE LIKE TO BOWL! Sunday, March 2nd, after a pancake and sausage brunch following the Liturgy we had nearly 50 adults and youth high-tail it to Edinboro for an afternoon of intense competition on the alleys. The skills displayed were impressive! Bowling balls were flying everywhere! We have Patty Martinez to thank for arranging a fun-filled afternoon.
WE VISITED THE MONASTERY OF THE HOLY TRANSFIGURATION in Ellwood City on Saturday, March 22nd. Ten young people and a dozen of us "old folks" made the trip. A young nun, Sister Martha, was our initial host and guide. Mother Karatina then worked on a project with the children. After a snack on some delicious homemade bread (Sister Martha's grandmother's secret recipe!)— the Abbess, Mother Christophora, visited and gave us all a blessing.
The children sang for her...she was very impressed! Our little group represented our parish very well! We then departed for Sts. Peter and Paul where a Lenten supper was waiting for us. We topped the day off by going to Vespers. It was a very peaceful, inspirational and enjoyable day!
We thank Terri Jouver for arranging the visit and organizing the day. Jane Cap brought a large basket of fruit to give to the nuns. Those nuns are pretty sharp as well as thoughtful! This is the note they sent us:
Father, Bless "You shall know them by their fruit" (MT 7.16) We pray in the Liturgy "for abundance of the fruits of the earth" and your Parish brought us a real harvest of APPLES and ORANGES ! So many ! The best ! Thank you so very much for your kindness. Nuns of the Monastery of the Transfiguration
M. Elizabeth
Everyone wants to go back in the summer. Don't miss that return visit! We want to take a hike to the river and waterfalls and help the nuns with some of their work.
Check out the "Orthodox Family Life" link on this page. There are some good articles for Pascha and the Paschal season. Look under "spiritual celebrations." (And listen to Ancient Faith Radio as you read!)
