OUR  THOUGHTS  DETERMINE  OUR  LIVES

The Life and Teachings of Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica

Compiled by the St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood.  Translated from the Serbian by Ana Smiljanic.

Published by Saint Herman of Alaska Brotherhood Press, 2009, 2010.

"We must bear everything patiently and forgive all.
If we have good thoughts and desires,
these thoughts will give us peace and joy
in this life and even more so in eternity.
Then we will see that there is no death,
and that He has given us eternal life."
(Elder Thaddeus)

Guidance from the Elder for families:

It is of great significance if there is a person who truly prays in a family.  Prayer attracts God's Grace and all the members of the family feel it, even those whose hearts have grown cold.  Pray always.

One of Fr. Thaddeus' visitors recounted: "An old lady asked Fr. Thaddeus what she was to do in order that her grand-children might become pious. Fr. Thaddeus replied, 'Let  their grandmother always be meek and good; let her never be angry and always be happy.  Let her obey everyone, since no one will obey her.  Perhaps the grandchildren will not become pious, but one day they will remember their grandmother and the memory of her will make them better people.' Life on earth is too brief, so brief that we cannot even imagine.  But much has been provided for us in this brief period of time that we are in this life.  It has been given to us so that we can always turn to God from the depth of our heart.  He is the One Who can transform and resurrect our souls.

Christians are very, very fortunate indeed to have the Most Holy Mother of God interceding for them before the throne of God.
Ponder This ―
We have been called to pray, keep vigil, and do good, but if we do not strive to become like Christ, then all is in vain.

What is fasting?  Fasting is not so much abstinence from food as abstinence from impure thoughts.
